This guide assumes that you have installed your Unifi controller 4 by following the exact steps in this guide: Unifi Controller 4 running on raspberry pi.

Preparations:

Make sure to create a backup of your current unifi controller.

Installation:

You need to edit your unifi.list file located in /etc/apt/sources.list.d

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/unifi.list

if you followed my privous guide, your unifi.list file will look like this:

deb http://www.ubnt.com/downloads/unifi/debian stable ubiquiti

You need to edit it to look like this:

deb http://www.ubnt.com/downloads/unifi/debian unifi5 ubiquiti

Save the file and run:

sudo apt-get update

And then run:

sudo apt-get install unifi -y

This will upgrade your unifi controller to version 5. But be aware, it will take a good amount of time for the controller to restart, your wifi connection will drop while the controller restarts. But you should be able to access your controller at https://your-raspberrypi-ip:8443 after aprox. 5-10 minutes.
